MVP for Authentic Communication Platform Startup

The app designed to support a daters’ whole lifecycle, and brings non-daters along the way.

The Challenge

Building high quality and visually challenging app with AI features and complex back end logic

The startup had already got Friends & Family funding and faced a challenge to build a production-ready version of the mobile app for the Beta release in the UK market. The app had to record short user videos and check them for inappropriate content in real time using Machine Learning techniques before publishing to the user’s feed. A bunch of creative features and sophisticated logic had to be handled on the backend. The task was complicated by the lack of requirements and potential scope changes because of the “startup” nature of the project.

Solution

Leveraging AWS AI tools for unsafe content detection

iOS and Android apps were developed using Flutter, an open source framework created by Google for building beautiful, natively compiled, multi-platform applications from a single codebase. The Node.js backend was hosted in AWS (Managed Cloud) using Infrastructure as a Code DevOps methodology. Amazon Machine Learning Services were used for video recognition tasks. It was extremely important to focus on efficient Project and Product management in communication with stakeholders to stay within a scope and budget.

Impact

Production-ready version was developed and tested to be released in UK market

Despite project management challenges, the MVP was delivered on time and fully production-ready, ensuring the client could move forward with investor demos and user testing as planned. As part of the scope, we also developed a marketing website on Webflow with a fully custom UI based on the client’s design. The site was launched in just 2 weeks, reducing the expected go-to-market timeline by 50%.

To validate the product concept, we organized an Alpha Testing phase involving 50+ carefully selected participants, recruited using Hotjar Engage. The testing generated:

  • 120+ qualitative feedback entries
  • 85% of testers reported that the platform felt “more human” and “refreshing” compared to traditional messaging tools
  • 68% expressed interest in continued usage post-launch
  • 15 key UX insights were identified and implemented before the next development sprint

These early validation results helped the client refine the core value proposition and strengthen their pitch during early investor outreach.
